Open the updated QuickBooks version.

Go to the File icon.

Select the Open or Restore Company tab.

Select the Open a company file.

Click the Next tab.

Choose the data file & click on the Open icon.

Verify the checkbox notification & choose the Update Now icon.

Finally, save the file at the desired location.

If you are going to open a company file using a newer version of QuickBooks, you may receive a prompt that would read, Do you want to continue? Select Yes.

Follow these steps once the file is updated.

Create a backup in a safe location.

In case the file was copied from a different computer, create a file copy in the computer the file initially belonged to.

If you aren't able to find your data on its original location. You need to check your hard drive for *QBW files.

Now search display hidden files and folders.

Also check out the payroll service.
