7 Reasons To Use A Contraceptive Sponge
Permalink

Several ways of birth control or contraception are available to us, but none are foolproof. However, you need to use birth control if you are not planning a pregnancy now. We all have our own preferences when it comes to choosing a contraceptive method. So if you have not found your most suitable contraceptive yet, here is some food for thought.

Have you ever heard of a contraceptive sponge? A contraceptive sponge is basically a new birth control method. It is a contraceptive device that combines the technology of IUCD (Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device) and vaginal tablets.

Here are some conclusive reasons why you should try using a contraceptive sponge.

It is made of foam plastic: The main complain that people have with IUCDs is that they are metallic. Women fear that having a metal inserted into their uterus for long may cause infection or in worst cases, cancer. But the sponge is made of plastic not metal.

It has spermicide: The plastic barrier is not the only way in which this device prevents pregnancy. It also has a spermicide which is not harmful for the vagina and kills the sperms.

It is instant: Other IUCDs have to be fitted into your cervix by a doctor. For that you have to take a prior appointment and get the procedure done. But a contraceptive sponge can be used instantly. So you can make love whenever you want to even if you are not planning a pregnancy.

Gives you 2 way protection: A contraceptive sponge has two types of protection. Firstly it acts as a shield barring the sperm physically from going into the cervix. Secondly it emits a spermicide that kills sperms.

It is easy to use: Unlike a female condom that has to be placed properly and adjusted, a sponge just needs to be inserted. It is very non-evasive and has metal knobs that can be used to pull it out.

It is good for women who have not given birth: A contraceptive sponge works better for women who have not given birth to a baby yet. If you are already a mother, it is better to use the sponge coupled with oral contraceptive pills.

It is use and throw: Unlike a diaphragm or IUCD, a sponge is not reusable. So the chances of developing an infection are much lesser.

But everybody's troubles are now, probably, over and we can all look forward to a new Golden Age of nothing bad ever happening again thanks to the Frankenstein Institute's $4,000 billion four-year research programme.
